London, June 15 : The Pakistan cricket coach, Intikhab Alam, has rejected former chief selector Abdul Qadir's allegations that he was not given enough room in the team's selection procedures.

Alam said he was disappointed, as well as shocked by Qadir's statements, as the team for the ICC Twenty20 World Championship was finalized only after he had given his consent.

"Comments regarding our interference is Qadir's own opinion. Whenever the team is selected, everybody, including the selectors, coach, and captain, and it is only then the piece of paper with everyone's signatures if forwarded to the PCB chairman," said Alam.

Alam said if Qadir had issues, he should have presented his opinion at the time when the team was being selected, and not after resigning from the post.

"If he (Qadir) had issues with our interference or had problems with the selection, why did he sign those papers? He should've come out there and then and shared his thought instead of waiting until after tendering his resignation before making such statements," The Dawn quoted Alam, as saying.

Alam also played down the rumors about fissures in the national squad, and said that such reports were baseless.

It may be noted that after tendering his resignation Qadir had said that he would have dropped both Shoaib Malik and captain Younis Khan from the team, as he had spotted a clash between then during the Dubai one day international series against Australia.

He had also charged the PCB Governing Board member Shakeel Sheikh of ruining the PCB.

"Sheikh is the cancer of the cricket, he should be kept at arm's length from cricket," Qadir said. (ANI)
